I have a similar sitution: TV in the living room, VIP2250 and DVD player in a media closet about 30' away, connected by HDMI cables. I'm not familiar with "Arris" as a brand name, but assume it's the same as a Motorola VIP2250, which is what I have. If you are ready for a new TV, look for a Samsung that has a built in IR repeater, designed just for this purpose. More expensive smart control has a hand held remote that transmits IR for the TV & wireless for the closet.

The least expensive would require a wire between the room & the closet. Logitech has three different "smart control" units. Monoprice also, has a kit to connect the two ends via the HDMI cable.
